Wilson Lutara's story is one of extraordinary perseverance against daunting odds, and provides a vivid picture from within the world of African politics that often seems so confusing to Western observers. He is a man of wisdom, humanity, and delightful humour. In particular he reveals much that was hitherto unknown about the nightmare tyranny of Idi Amin in Lutara's native Uganda. Michael Wynne-Parker has performed a signal service in making his story publicly available, and I hope it will receive a wide readership.
