Our objectives in this edition are the same as in the prior editions: to give the psychology major and the new graduate student a broad perspective on the most important systems and theories in psychology. An important part of this is a presentation of the continuity between historical and contemporary developments, and we believe we have made this connection better in this edition than we have previously. It is our hope that this integrated approach will help students to understand the relationships among the bits and pieces to which they are sometimes exposed in more specialized coursework.
