This documentation on the division and unification of Europe after the Second World War is neither a new history of the Cold War nor of European unification. Instead, it compares and contrasts the various forms and methods of integration in Western and Eastern Europe, of the institutions created on both sides, initially in opposition but then gradually turning towards each other. The 120 documents in this volume follow the historical sequence of events in the decades since the war. They are arranged according to a different periods, equally for East and West, each section accompanied by a short introduction. With this the documents are placed in their relevant political context allowing thus for a better understanding of both their background and their relevance. --- CONTENTS: I.
