Estonia is one of the Baltic states. It has land border with Russia and Latvia. Overseas neighbours are Finland and Sweden. Archaelogical finds show human habitation dating back 10 000 years. In various times, Estonia's territory has belonged to Denmark, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Russia. Estonia became an independent country in early 20th century. The territory covers 45 000 square kilometres, population is 1,5 million, the country is divided in 15 counties, the capital is Tallinn.
